The Woman Behind the Business
Alexis Underwood is a luxury branding and custom website design business. Her website can be found here at https://www.alexisunderwood.com/
Alexis and I have worked together a few times before, well actually, my journey into personal branding photographer started with a for fun session with her previous business that she later sold. If you'd like to view her last session and all the previous sessions that are linked at the very end of this BLOG POST.
This session was taken at The SoftLight Studio in Tacoma, that is actually owned by another personal branding photographer (community over competition). I love this space, it isn't large only 400 square feet but for a shooting a single business owner we had plentily of space and variety of looks to shoot. The other nice thing about this studio space is it is built over the garage of the photographer's home so we don't have to worry about parking which is nice, however you do have to climb some stairs to access it.
Now on to the rest of this post and 3 shots you need to get in your next personal branding photoshoot session.
The Lifestyle Headshots
and add a lot of personality to them
The headshots, as everyone knows them as, don't need to be the corporate look, in all honesty that isn’t my vibe. I prefer the lifestyle looks to headshots with all different parts of your personality showing through. These photos are great for About Me pages, with you being the focus of the image. Your expressions should vary and even looking away from the camera. Each image is going to capture a different mood and emotion.
Share that shining personality with your clients!
Detail Shots
Focusing on...well details
The detailed images, it's just what it sounds like. These are taking the viewer's eye to a specific part of the image with little surrounding environment showing. This is the story of you working and interacting with your props. The focus is all on how you working with the prop. Typically I'll ask clients to put a little smile on their lips while they are "work" or holding that prop, sometimes the face isn't even shown, it all depends on the crop I want to provide or if there is a client preference.
These photos are great to use as filler images and talking points. For the images taken wide they can also be great banner and header images to use on your website. I do take a variety of angle with these images, then you select which way you want the photos to be.
Branded Stock Photos
without you
Sometimes we need some images without us in them and who wants to keep using stock images from the internet that everyone else can also use. These should be completely on brand! They should be of your colors and each piece in the images represents you and your business brand. If it isn’t ON BRAND, it won’t be added.
Bonus: Behind the Scenes Images
everyone loves seeing the how you do things
We all need images of us doing our thing, even as the photographer I am no exception! These images of us in our business have the intention of creating connections and building KNOW, LIKE and TRUST.
Show up, show your face and get those images of you, because you are the best part of YOUR BRAND.
DO YOU NEED THESE IMAGES OF YOU FOR YOUR BRAND?
